Jumbo White
Large-bodied white Coturnix quail selected for meat and egg production, with clean white plumage and a calm, productive temperament.
Egg characteristics
Cream to light tan eggs with variable dark brown speckling and mottling. Jumbo White lines commonly produce larger eggs than standard Coturnix, with breeder examples around 14–15 grams. Egg size and shell pattern vary by hen and bloodline.
Temperament
Generally calm, manageable, and well suited to small-flock production. Individual temperament varies, and mature males may become territorial during breeding season. Jumbo White lines are commonly selected for manageable temperament as well as production traits.
Sexing
Not feather-sexable. Males and females have similar white plumage, so breast feather pattern cannot reliably identify sex. Mature birds can be vent sexed, typically around 6–8 weeks; males develop a foam-producing gland above the vent. Crowing identifies males, while egg laying confirms females.
Care notes
Provide a quality game-bird or quail ration appropriate for age, constant clean water, dry and well-ventilated housing, and adequate space. Jumbo birds grow rapidly and benefit from good nutrition during development. Use secure housing that protects them from injury caused by the strong vertical flight response typical of Coturnix.
Additional notes
“Jumbo White” describes a size-selected white Coturnix line rather than a separate species or formally standardized breed. Individual birds may have small patches of colored plumage depending on the genetics of the line. Body size, egg production, and hatch performance vary with genetics and management
